Agence NEWTON came about from the meeting of Sheelagh GORHAM and Dan NEWTON.

In 1986, long before it was fashionable for Brits to move to rural France, Dan NEWTON made a bold choice: he left the UK and settled in Brittany. What began as a lifestyle change soon became a lifelong vocation — and ultimately, a pioneering career in the French real estate industry.

From the Ground Up: A Career Built on Experience

Dan started at the very bottom of the ladder, learning the ins and outs of the French property market firsthand. Over the years, he climbed the ranks and earned widespread respect for his deep understanding of rural real estate, his bilingual service, and his commitment to professionalism.

Eventually, he achieved something unprecedented at the time:
➡️ Dan became the first British national to obtain the official French carte professionnelle (estate agency licence) in Brittany.
A landmark achievement that cemented his position as a trusted expert in cross-cultural property transactions.

Digital Before It Was Cool

Dan was also a trailblazer in digital real estate marketing. In the early 2000s, long before online portals dominated the market, he launched one of the first 100% online agencies:
👉 Immobilier-de-Bretagne.com, along with its English-language counterpart Brittany-Direct.com, focused specifically on helping British buyers find character homes in Brittany, France.

These platforms were ahead of their time — offering remote buyers access to the French countryside long before virtual viewings became the norm.

👉In 2012 he was one of the first agencies in France to import and start using the Matterport 360° Virtual tour system

Building on this experience, Dan later founded Agence Newton, an independent, bilingual estate agency with a very clear mission:

Despite his senior role, Dan remains actively involved in day-to-day operations — supporting his team, mentoring new agents, and continuing to work closely with clients. His hands-on approach, vast experience, and calm professionalism make him a reliable guide in what can often be a complex process.

Sheelagh GORHAM – A Trusted Expert in Property Between Coast and Countryside

Sheelagh GORHAM is a highly experienced property professional based near Granville in Normandy. With over 30 years in direct sales and nearly two decades working in the French property market, she has become a key figure in the field — especially among international buyers seeking a home in rural France.

A Career Rooted in Two Cultures

Originally from the UK, Sheelagh relocated to France in the early 2000s and quickly discovered a passion for stone houses, Normandy’s coastal charm, and the lifestyle of rural France. She began her real estate career with one of the first French agencies focused on helping British buyers, developing a deep understanding of both the local market and the cultural nuances of cross-border transactions.

Known for her warm approach and natural ability to put clients at ease, Sheelagh stands out for her professionalism, calm guidance, and her commitment to making every property transaction smooth, transparent, and positive.

In 2016, Sheelagh joined forces with Dan NEWTON to launch Agence Newton — an independent agency with a modern vision and traditional values. Together, they built a structure based on:
