Buy a piece of history, unique in France this is the only park registered as a Historical Monument and the Ice House is believed to be one of the only two that remain throughout the country.
A parchment in latin identified animals in the park in the 11th Century that we today know as deer, peacocks and waterfowl especially geese. The current owners re-introduced deer to the park so guests can enjoy the park as their ancestors in the Middle Ages would have done.
The park was built to reflect the image of paradise as described in the bible, it was built facing east with its corners located at cardinal points the same as Jerusalem.
At the end of the French Revolution the park became known for its therapeutic qualities.
The old Glacerie or ice house, is a dome surrounded by stone with a 6 metre hole, it used to be filled with snow and ice, at the base the slush turns to water. It is beleived that the materials to build this were at the time very expensive and it was discovered in 2000 that part of the funding for this would have come from the Vatican
The hunting lodge, restored using original materials and was designed with two levels, on the ground floor are two rooms that today we would call a kitchen and a cellar are both symmetrical and vaulted. Soups and roasts would have been cooked in the large fireplace and then carried up the spiral stone staircase to be served. The first floor has another 2 rooms currently used a lounge and bedroom, the bedroom would have been used as an observation room for hunting game. Another spiral staircase leads to the attic where you will find another two rooms.
The park is over 15 acres with a large lake that is approx 3 acres in size. I have walked through the park, have seen the deer run past me and have admired its beauty and recommend that you do the same.
Viewings strictly by appointment.
